Scope
This standard specifies a method of pipeline weak magnetic detection for the detection of geometric deformation, cracks, material loss, perforation, and other damage in ferromagnetic material pipelines where the magnetic field signal strength is generally below 0.1 mT.
This standard is applicable to the direct detection of pipelines without surface protective layers or coatings, and the non-excavation detection of buried pipelines. This standard is not applicable to the detection of damage at spiral welds, nor to pipelines with metal coatings.
