Scope

This standard specifies the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and packaging, marking, storage, and transportation of tannin extract from oak galls.
This standard applies to powdered tannin extract made from the shell galls of Quercus acutissima or Quercus variabilis, which are extracted by water immersion, concentrated, chemically treated or untreated, and dried. It is mainly used for hard water softening, desulfurization in fertilizer production, boiler descaling, mineral processing, drilling mud treatment, and leather making.
