Scope
This document provides guidelines for the ergonomic design evaluation of human-system interaction input systems, which mainly include the following content.
—— It specifies ergonomic design guidelines for physical input devices such as keyboards, mice, cursors, joysticks, trackballs, trackpads, handwriting tablets, and pointing devices, touchscreens, styluses, light pens, as well as voice and gesture controls, taking into account user capabilities and limitations, and considering general design standards for physical input devices and specific standards for each type of device.
—— It proposes methods for evaluating whether input devices such as keyboards, mice, cursors, joysticks, trackballs, touchpads, handwriting/pointing devices, touchscreens, and light pens meet the requirements of Chapter 4.
—— It provides guidelines for selecting input devices and presents testing and evaluation methods for using input devices in workplaces and user organizations.
—— It provides a framework for understanding and communicating various aspects of haptic interaction, including terminology and definitions, descriptions of structures and models, and introductions to other parts of the ISO 9241 "900" subseries. It also provides guidance on applying different forms of interaction to various user tasks.
—— It offers recommendations on the interaction between haptic hardware and software, providing guidelines related to hardware and software design and evaluation, as well as combinations of hardware and software interaction.
—— It describes the types of methods that can be used to evaluate haptic devices and systems including haptic devices, specifies procedures for evaluating haptic interaction through usability exercises or usability tests, provides guidance on the types of methods suitable for evaluating specific attributes of haptic systems, and cross-references guidance from other clauses of international standards (see Appendix A).
