This protocol applies to the cultivation of Cuscuta in "Tianfu He Tuo"; Main technical content: **Pre-planting preparations** 3.1 **Site selection**: - Cuscuta and its host plant, white spines, thrive in arid, high-temperature-difference, low-precipitation, and long-sunlight desert environments. Therefore, sites with sandy soil, semi-fixed sand dunes, moderate groundwater levels, and good soil permeability are selected. - Windbreaks or fences are planted around the base to prevent grazing or wild animals from eating white spines and Cuscuta plants. - For irrigated areas with uneven terrain or sandy beaches/slope areas, engineering measures can be used to level the ground for easier planting and management. Alternatively, areas with naturally growing white spines populations can be selected for inoculation. - **Planting time**: Cuscuta can be planted using white spines seedlings from early April to late May in spring and from late October to mid-November in autumn. - **Seedling quality**: Use natural seedlings (bare root or containerized) that are robust, have intact roots, and are free from pests and diseases. (Bare root seedlings should be 30–50 cm tall with a diameter of 0.5 cm or more.
