Scope

Scope: This document specifies the terms and definitions of calving and postpartum comprehensive care for beef cows, as well as the technical requirements for delivery and postpartum care. This document is applicable to beef cow farms (operators). Main Technical Content: 4. Delivery 4.1 Hygiene and Disinfection 4.1.1 The disinfectants used for disinfection shall comply with the provisions of NY 5125. 4.1.2 The disinfection methods and disinfection system shall comply with the provisions of NY/T 5128. 4.2 Natural Delivery 4.2.1 When the cow exhibits elongated vulvar fissure, swelling, unfolding of vulvar folds, or leakage of amniotic sac or fetal hooves during natural delivery, the rear part, external genitalia, and tail root of the cow shall be disinfected, and then the fetus shall be naturally delivered by the cow. 4.3 Assisted Delivery 4.3.1 Assisted Delivery Judgment During the delivery process, if the cow exhibits vigorous abdominal straining, leakage of amniotic sac or fetal hooves, and exposure of the fetal forelimbs and head after rupture of the amniotic sac, the fetus shall be delivered in batches through repeated straining, with each straining lasting 30 minutes to 70 minutes. If there is no obvious progress every 15 to 20 minutes, it can be determined that assisted delivery is needed. 4.3.2 Preparations for Assisted Delivery 4.3.2.1 Assisted delivery personnel shall wear work clothes, and their hands, tools, obstetric instruments, and surrounding environments shall be strictly disinfected. Their nails shall be trimmed and smoothed. 4.3.2.2 Prepare alcohol, iodine solution, scissors, forceps, cotton balls, and assisted delivery ropes, etc. 4.3.2.3 Check whether the cow's straining is vigorous, whether the birth canal has mucosal edema, whether the surface is dry or moist, and whether there are injuries or bleeding. 4.3.2.4 Check the fetal position, fetal presentation, and fetal orientation to determine whether the fetus is a
