Basic Information
Scope
Scope: This document specifies the technical requirements for grafting techniques of large-leaved tea trees in Yunnan, including terminology and definitions, branch selection and management, rootstock selection and management, grafting methods, and post-grafting management. This document applies to grafting and replacement of tea varieties, as well as post-grafting management in suitable cultivation areas of large-leaved tea trees in Yunnan. Main technical content: 4. Branch selection and management 4.1 Branch selection 4.1.1 For wax-sealed grafting of old branches, select woody branches with a brown or gray-white color, preferably those with many branches or bud eyes. 4.1.2 For high-stem grafting of young shoots, select green or yellow-green initial woody branches, preferably those with millet-shaped axillary buds. 4.1.3 For low-stem grafting with bagging and high-stem grafting with filming, select yellow-green or reddish-brown semi-woody branches, preferably those with enlarged and sprouting axillary buds. 4.2 Branch management 4.2.1 Reserve branches should be cultivated on the mother tea tree according to the selected variety and grafting method. For old branch grafting, reserve branches 10-18 months in advance; for young shoot or branch grafting, reserve branches 2-4 months in advance. During the reserve period, select branches with more and uniform new shoots to cultivate strong branches. 4.2.2 For fertilization and management of reserve branches, apply N:P:K=15:10:10 compound fertilizer at a dosage of 30 kg/667 m2 to 50 kg/667 m2 about 20 days before grafting, and promptly control pests, diseases, and weeds. 4.2.3 Top pruning: Remove the top buds of branches 15-20 days before pruning to promote branch maturation and axillary bud enlargement and sprouting. 4.2.4 Pruning: Pruning should be carried out during cool periods. Generally, prune branches at the position where fish leaves appear, and remove excess leaves, branches, and young sho
