Scope
This standard specifies a test method for the emergency stop torque (destructive torque) of a turbomolecular pump. This torque is generated by the gas impulse produced by axial flow blades or spiral channels. The main destructive force that causes the destruction of the molecular pump is the torque centered on the rotor axis. Other possible minor forces and torques are not within the scope of this standard.
There are two forms of destruction: rapid pump failure and rotor scraping failure, and this standard applies to both. Turbomolecular pumps and drag-out molecular pumps can use the same test method.
