Scope

This document describes two test methods for measuring the sound pressure level of exhaust silencers: -- The first method is called the "steady state mode method", which is designed to evaluate the noise level under steady-state flow when the upstream pressure is constant (ISO 63581 steady-state test). -- The second method is called the "venting mode method", which is designed to measure the noise level during a drop in upstream pressure (ISO 63582 emission test). This document is applicable to pneumatic exhaust silencers and devices designed to reduce the noise generated by compressed air emissions, and complies with the application scope specified in ISO 63581 and ISO 63582.
