This document specifies the equipment and methods for determining the porosity of gold or palladium plating layers using sulfurous acid/sulfur dioxide vapor, particularly for determining the porosity of plating layers and gold-plated layers on electrical contacts. This document is not applicable to the determination of the compliance of specific porosity values. This document is not applicable to predicting the electrical performance of plating contacts based on the location of pores and corrosion products. This document is applicable to quantitatively describing gold or palladium plating layers with a porosity of less than 100 pores/cm2.
