Scope

This standard specifies a method for evaluating the repeatability and consistency of X-ray photoelectron spectrometer intensity standards in routine analysis, using non-monochromatic Al/Mg or monochromatic Al X-ray sources. This standard is only applicable to instruments equipped with sputter ion guns. This standard does not calibrate the intensity/energy response function. This calibration should be carried out by the instrument manufacturer or other qualified institutions. The data provided in this standard are used to evaluate and confirm the accuracy of the intensity/energy response function remaining constant during the instrument's use. This standard provides some guidance on instrument settings that may affect consistency.
