Scope
This document specifies guidelines for the inclusion of graphical symbols for electrical equipment in IEC publications, ensuring that the graphical symbols for electrical equipment included in IEC publications meet the requirements of horizontal standards IEC 60417 and ISO 7000.
This document is applicable to any technical committee or sub-technical committee intending to develop graphical symbols for electrical equipment and include them in their product publications.
This document is based on Chapter 4 of IEC Guide 108:2006.
For the creation of new graphical symbols for electrical equipment, see IEC 80416-1 and ISO 80416-2; for the application of standardized graphical symbols for electrical equipment, see IEC 80416-3 and ISO 80416-4.
This horizontal standard is primarily intended for use by technical committees when drafting standards in accordance with the principles set out in IEC Guide 108.
One of the responsibilities of technical committees is to use horizontal standards appropriately when drafting publications. Unless specifically mentioned or included in the relevant publications, the content of horizontal standards does not apply.
