Scope
This standard specifies the method, steps, and requirements for rapidly determining the critical pitting temperature of stainless steel using a single sample. This standard is applicable to determining the critical pitting temperature of stainless steel (austenite, ferrite/austenite, ferrite) under constant potential control. Note: The critical pitting temperature defined in this standard can be used as a relative indicator of performance, for example, to compare the relative performance of different grades of stainless steel. The tests in this standard are not intended to determine the temperature at which pitting occurs in a service environment.
