Scope

This standard specifies the nested RT-PCR and fluorescence quantitative RT-PCR methods for detecting the nucleic acid of the rabies virus in animals. This standard is applicable to the detection of the virus nucleic acid in the brain tissue, spinal cord, cerebrospinal fluid, salivary glands, saliva, and rabies virus cell cultures of animals suspected of rabies virus infection in clinical settings (see Appendix A).
