Main Technical Content: The Hetao Irrigation Area features flat terrain. According to the environmental monitoring conducted by the environmental monitoring department commissioned by the provincial green food management authority, the environmental quality of the production area should meet the requirements of NY/T 391. 3.1 Lighting: The average daily sunlight duration is over 10 hours, with an annual sunshine duration of 3,200–3,400 hours. 3.2 Temperature: The minimum temperature required for watermelon cultivation is 10°C, and the optimum temperature range is 25–30°C. The effective accumulated temperature during the entire growth period should be 2,500–3,000°C. 3.3 Water: Convenient irrigation with water diversion and drainage systems, and water quality meeting the requirements of GB 5084. 3.4 Soil: Deep soil layers with medium fertility, a pH value of 7.5–8.5, and a texture of loam or sandy loam, meeting the standards of GB 15618 for soil environmental quality. 4 Preparation for Planting 4.1 Soil Preparation: Watermelons adapt well to a wide range of soil types, but it is recommended to use sandy loam with good structure for cultivation. The previous crop should preferably be wheat, corn, legumes, or grasses, or land that has been rotated for 4–5 years. Avoid planting gourds or tobacco as successive crops. Before planting, the soil should be deeply plowed and prepared to meet the seven standards of "level, smooth, loose, crushed, clean, moist, and even". Apply 5,000 kg of high-quality composted organic fertilizer, 20–25 kg of diammonium phosphate, 15 kg of urea, and 10 kg of potassium sulfate per mu, and plow the soil to a depth of 25–30 cm. The fertilizers should comply with GB/T 19630.1. 4.2 Seed Preparation: - Seed disinfection: - Hot water soaking: Soak the seeds in 55°C warm water for 15–20 minutes. - Chemical disinfection: Soak the seeds in 0.1% potassium permanganate for 10–15 minutes, or soak in 50% multisporin for 30 minutes
