Main Technical Content: 6. Planning and Construction The construction scale is determined based on the number of whitewax plant germplasm resources collected, the planting spacing, and other tasks required of the germplasm resource nursery, which should be no less than 1 hectare. 6.2.1 Zoning The functional zones should include observation nurseries, preservation nurseries, and propagation nurseries, with preservation nurseries as the main focus. - An observation nursery is a temporary preservation site established for the selection and biological research of whitewax plant varieties. - A preservation nursery is a location ensuring the growth and long-term preservation of whitewax plant germplasm resources. - A propagation nursery is used for expanding propagation to provide seeds for nursery preservation and distribution. 6.2.2 Planting Zones It is recommended to set up large and small zones. One source of germplasm should be assigned to one large zone, and one family, variety (line), or clonal line should be assigned to one small zone. 6.3.1 Nursery Preparation Follow DB11/T 476 standards. 6.3.2 Seedling Propagation 6.3.2.1.1 Seed preparation and storage requirements: a) Seeds should be collected from superior trees after the wings turn yellow-brown and the seed kernels harden in late November. b) Seeds should be dried in the shade and cleaned of impurities. c) Label the prepared seeds with collection information and store them in disinfected, dry, and ventilated rooms at 0–10°C with 50–65% relative humidity. 6.3.2.1.2 Seed disinfection and germination requirements: a) Follow DB11/T 476 for seed disinfection. Common disinfectants are listed in Appendix A. b) Use low-temperature stratification for seed germination. The stratification period is 40–45 days, depending on the variety.
