Scope

This standard specifies the grading of the liquid barrier performance of medical protective clothing and the related labeling requirements.
This standard applies to protective clothing labeled with liquid barrier performance or liquid-borne microorganism barrier performance.
This standard does not apply to other protective gear used by medical personnel, such as: (1) protective gear not labeled or not used for liquid or microorganism barrier (e.g., radiation protective clothing); (2) tools or equipment used for handling dangerous chemicals, chemotherapy drugs, or hazardous waste.
This standard does not apply to medical protective clothing that protects against solid particles or solid microorganisms.
This standard does not address guidelines for medical institutions to properly handle or dispose of reusable medical protective clothing.
