Scope

This standard specifies the design, selection, testing, calibration, and functional positioning guidelines for monitoring equipment of radioactive substances in process streams during normal operation and anticipated operational events of nuclear power plants. This standard applies to monitors that are placed in process streams (i.e., immersed in them) or near process streams (i.e., with the field of view directly facing pipes or tanks) to measure radioactivity, but does not apply to monitors that measure representative samples of fluids at a distance (at the sampling device). This standard applies to monitors during normal and anticipated operational events, but does not apply to radiation monitoring equipment in process streams during accidents and post-accident conditions.
