Scope
This standard aims to provide guidance for ship designers and operators (crew members) on mechanical operation issues involved in ship operations in extreme conditions in polar waters, both before and during operations. This standard supplements the International Maritime Organization (IMO) "Rules for Ship Operations in Polar Waters" and the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) Unified Requirements (UR) "I" "Requirements for Polar Class Ships". Although this standard primarily considers ship operations in polar waters, the design and layout of ships must also take into account issues involved during ship construction or in shipyard environments.
