Scope

This document specifies the determination of the interlaminar shear strength and interlaminar shear modulus of fiber-reinforced plastic composites using the double-beam method (DBS). This document is applicable to glass fiber or carbon fiber reinforced thermoset plastic composites that can exhibit acceptable interlaminar shear failure. This document is only applicable to laminates with symmetrical and balanced layups to avoid the test results being affected by bending/twisting or bending/tension coupling deformation (see 6.2). This document is particularly suitable for unidirectional laminates with fibers arranged along the length of the specimen (axial direction). For laminates with specific layups, matrices, and fibers (such as natural fibers), it is necessary to evaluate the delamination failure to determine whether they are suitable for this document.
