Scope
This guidance technical document defines a data management reference model. It establishes a framework for coordinating existing and future standards developed for managing persistent data in information systems. Existing data management standards are referenced in Appendix A. This guidance technical document defines common terminology and concepts related to all data maintained in information systems. These concepts are used to more specifically define the services provided by special data management components (such as database management systems or data dictionary systems). The interfaces specified by these service definitions can serve as the subject of future standardization.
