Scope

This standard specifies the quality grading principles for faceted ruby jewelry (including both mounted and unmounted faceted ruby jewelry). This standard applies to the grading of faceted ruby jewelry with a weight of more than 1 carat (ruby jewelry with a weight of less than 1 carat may be referenced for implementation). It can be used for quality inspection, value assessment, commercial trade, capital collateral, pawnbroking, and auction of faceted ruby jewelry. This standard does not apply to the grading of ruby jewelry that has been artificially "processed", synthesized, or assembled, nor does it apply to ruby raw materials and unpolished ruby jewelry.
