Terms and Definitions The following terms and definitions, as defined in LY/T 1773, apply to this document: 3.1 Heap-fermentation The process of placing Torreya seeds that have had their husks removed at a certain temperature and humidity to promote the removal of husks, desiccation, and nutrient conversion. 3.2 Dead seeds Unripe Torreya seeds that are collected and undergo heap-fermentation but result in dry, hard, and light kernels. 3.3 Rancid seeds Torreya seeds with oxidized and rancid fats, emitting odors or showing oil stains at the seed eye. 3.4 Shaky kernels Torreya seeds that have reached maturity but are not harvested in a timely manner, resulting in severe separation of kernels from shells before heap-fermentation. 4.
