Scope

This document specifies the design requirements, performance requirements, and related testing methods for forward-facing wheelchair passenger systems, as well as requirements for information, labels, and instructions, and requirements for test reports and declarations.
This document applies to the space used by wheelchair passengers weighing more than 22 kg who face forward when riding in accessible buses designed to transport seated and standing passengers on fixed routes. The prerequisites of this document are that the maximum acceleration of the vehicle in any direction under emergency driving conditions does not exceed 1g, and the acceleration during a frontal collision rarely exceeds 3g. In this document, the term "wheelchair" includes manual wheelchairs and electric wheelchairs, as well as three-wheeled and four-wheeled mobility scooters.
This document is primarily applicable to complete forward-facing wheelchair passenger spaces (FF-WPS), but the specified sub-clauses can also apply to components and assemblies sold separately, as well as to components and assemblies intended for replacement with specific functions.
