Scope: This document specifies the terminology and definitions, grouping and principles, nutritional requirements and feed management, and comfort management techniques for the rearing and management of lactating cows in large-scale dairy farms in Ningxia. Terminology and definitions The following terms and definitions apply to this document. 3.1 Lactating cow Refers to cows that start producing milk after giving birth and continue until dry-off. 3.2 Total mixed ration (TMR) A scientifically designed diet formulation based on the nutritional needs of cows and the nutritional value of feed ingredients. Coarse and concentrated feed, minerals, vitamins, and additives are mixed and cut by a dedicated mixing machine in a certain proportion to produce a well-balanced diet.
