Scope

This document specifies the terms and definitions, usage conditions, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation, and storage of discharge coils for high-voltage parallel capacitor devices. This document applies to single-phase fully sealed oil-immersed and dry discharge coils used with high-voltage parallel capacitor devices rated at 50 Hz and voltage levels of 6 kV to 66 kV. The high-voltage windings of the discharge coils are connected in parallel with the high-voltage parallel capacitor banks, allowing the capacitors to be disconnected from the power system and have their residual voltage reduced to the required value within a specified time period. When the discharge coils have secondary windings, they can also be used for voltage measurement and to provide voltage signals for relay protection.
