Scope

Scope: This standard specifies the indicator system that should be followed in the sustainable production of cotton. This standard is applicable to the conformity assessment and certification of cotton producers' cotton production and operation activities; Main technical content: With the development of industrial civilization, the deep-seated contradictions between humans and nature have emerged, and sustainable development has increasingly become the goal and consensus of governments, enterprises, and consumers around the world. Agricultural sustainable development is based on the transformation of production methods. While improving production capacity, it pays more attention to resource conservation, environmental protection, and quality improvement. Guiding cotton producers to adopt sustainable production and operation methods helps meet people's demand for high-quality and sustainable cotton products; it helps improve resource utilization efficiency and protect the natural environment; and it helps enhance rural economic development and achieve fair distribution. This standard aims at sustainable cotton production and focuses on the management and use of agricultural chemicals such as pesticides and fertilizers in the production process; water and soil health, biodiversity protection, and greenhouse gas emission reduction; quality and traceability; occupational health, safety, welfare, and social responsibility, etc. Based on the ISO 17065 product certification method, the standard sets evaluation principles and indicators to facilitate conformity assessment and testing activities. It hopes to establish a scientific, operable, and internationally accepted standard implementation method that meets the actual needs of the cotton industry and builds a bridge between sustainable cotton production and consumption.
