Scope: This document specifies the terms and definitions, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of bovine mycoplasmosis in large-scale beef cattle farms. This document is applicable to the prevention and control of bovine mycoplasmosis in large-scale beef cattle farms. Other beef cattle farms may refer to this document for implementation. Main technical content: 3 Terms and Definitions The following terms and definitions apply to this document. - **Bovine mycoplasmosis**: An infectious disease caused by Mycoplasma bovis in cattle, which manifests with various clinical symptoms. - **PPLO medium**: A medium for culturing various mycoplasmas, mainly used for the isolation and cultivation of Mycoplasma. 4 Diagnosis and Epidemiology Mycoplasma primarily infects beef cattle and dairy cows. Factors such as long-distance transportation, changes in the rearing environment, and climate changes can trigger the occurrence of bovine mycoplasmosis. Infected cattle can transmit the pathogen through the respiratory tract and milk. - **Clinical symptoms**: - **Pneumonia type**: Fever, cough, respiratory difficulty, and secretions of mucus or pus from the mouth and nose. - **Arthritis type**: Swelling of the knee joint and lameness. - **Mastitis type**: Congestion, swelling, and coagulation of the mammary gland. - **Conjunctivitis type**: Tearing, redness of the conjunctiva, and protruding of the cornea and conjunctiva, leading to blindness. - **Pathological changes**: Increased fluid in the thoracic cavity and pericardium, adhesions of the lungs, solid necrosis, and gray-white cheesy or suppurative necrosis. - **Joint fluid**: Yellow or thick fluid in the joint cavity. 5 Sampling and Cultivation - **Pneumonia type**: Follow the procedures in NY/T 3234. - **Mastitis, arthritis, and conjunctivitis types**: Collect milk, joint fluid, and eye secretions into sterile tubes and refrigerate them.
