Scope

This standard specifies two methods for determining the total plant alkaloid retention of cigarette filters by photometry:
—— Direct method;
—— Indirect method.
This standard is applicable to filter cigarettes. Generally, the direct method is used. Only when the total plant alkaloids retained by the filter material (such as activated carbon filters) cannot be completely extracted should the indirect method be used. The indirect method is not applicable to ventilated filter cigarettes.
