Scope

This standard specifies the design principles, materials, welding, structures, test procedures, and requirements for offshore oil drilling equipment, workover equipment, and auxiliary equipment in the oil and gas industry. This standard applies to the design and construction of drilling equipment, workover equipment, and auxiliary equipment newly installed and used on various types of mobile and fixed offshore drilling and workover platforms. Existing equipment may refer to and implement this standard when applicable. This standard applies to the entire process from conceptual design to completion of construction, including major overhauls. The technical and procedural requirements set forth in this standard also apply to temporarily installed equipment.
