Scope

This standard specifies the requirements for the construction, design, installation, acceptance, and maintenance of fixed gas-powered supersonic dry powder fire-extinguishing systems. The fixed gas-powered supersonic dry powder fire-extinguishing systems specified in this standard are applicable to gas fires where the gas source can be cut off before fire extinguishing; flammable and combustible liquid and meltable solid fires; combustible solid surface fires; and fires in live electrical equipment. It is not applicable to fires involving nitrocellulose, explosives, and other chemicals that can rapidly oxidize in the absence of air, as well as fires involving highly oxidizing agents; and fires involving reactive metals such as potassium, sodium, magnesium, titanium, and zirconium, and their hydrides.
