T/GDPPS 003-2023 Technical Guidelines for Forecasting and Predicting the Occurrence of Lychee Stem Borers and Lychee Bugs

Scope

Scope: This document specifies the methods for pest investigation and forecasting of lychee stem borers and lychee leafhoppers in lychee main production areas. Main technical content: (1) Prediction and forecasting of lychee stem borers: 1. Investigation of the overwintering situation of lychee stem borers; 2. Investigation of the field occurrence of lychee stem borers; 3. Before fruit setting, investigate the occurrence of adults by sampling branches in the crown of the tree to count the number of adults. After fruit setting, investigate the occurrence of larvae and sort them by age. Predict the optimal time for pest control based on the number of larvae of different ages. 4. Investigate the indoor development progress of lychee stem borers. After the second physiological fruit drop, regularly collect dropped lychees and place them indoors to investigate the pupation of lychee stem borers daily. 5. Predict the optimal time for pest control based on the relationship between temperature and the growth and development of lychee stem borers, and predict the adult emergence period and egg hatching peak. (2) Prediction and forecasting of lychee leafhoppers: 1. Investigate the overwintering situation of lychee leafhoppers; 2. Investigate the occurrence of lychee leafhoppers before flowering and the development progress of their ovaries; 3. Investigate the occurrence of lychee leafhoppers after fruit setting and their development progress in the field; 4. Predict the optimal time for pest control based on the development progress of lychee leafhoppers' ovaries to predict the peak period of overwintering adults laying eggs and the peak periods of first- and second-instar larvae in the field.
