Scope
This standard specifies the survey, evaluation of the existing road, route design, roadbed, pavement, bridges and culverts, intersection design, traffic engineering, and facilities along the route during the design process of highway expansion projects. This standard applies to expansion projects that use the existing road as the basis and add sections on both sides of the roadbed to form a monolithic cross-section. For expansion projects that use a separate cross-section and build new roads or select a new corridor for construction, the current technical standards for new highway projects should be implemented.
