Scope

This standard specifies the design, performance, and use of lifeboats, life rafts, and rescue boats carried on board, as required by the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) of 1974 and its amendments, as well as the International Life-Saving Appliance Code (LSA). For many of the items, it also includes guidelines for daily maintenance and regular inspections by competent authorities or crew members, as described in Appendix A.
