Scope

This document specifies:
—— Test equipment, test circuits, and test procedures for evaluating the water separation performance of oil purifiers;
—— Procedures for preparing test oil;
—— Procedures for obtaining and analyzing test oil samples.
This document is only applicable to oil purifiers that reduce the relative saturation of hydraulic oil with water to less than 20% at the test temperature.
This document provides a procedure with good reproducibility for testing the water separation performance, which can be used to compare the performance of oil purifiers applying the same hydraulic oil under the same test conditions.
The test procedures specified in this document can be used to evaluate the water separation performance of oil purifiers for different types of hydraulic oil under different conditions. For the characteristics of a specific type of hydraulic oil, some conditions of the test procedure may need to be adjusted. For example, hydraulic oils with high water solubility (many synthetic and flame-retardant hydraulic oils) require a higher water content at the beginning of the test; when testing hydraulic oils with zinc-based additives, the Karl Fischer water content determination procedure needs to be adjusted. However, as long as the conditions specified in this document are met, the performance of oil filters can be compared.
