Scope
Scope: This document specifies the characteristics, physical appearance, wool characteristics, production performance, and grading standards of Alashan white cashmere goats. This document is applicable to the identification and grading of Alashan white cashmere goats (this standard only applies to Alashan white cashmere goats, excluding multicolored cashmere goats). Normative reference documents; Main technical content: 1. Breed characteristics: Alashan white cashmere goats are a multi-purpose breed, suitable for wool, meat, milk, and leather production. Their wool is fine and long, their meat is tender and free from rancid odor, making them an ideal breed for rearing in the Alashan desert and Gobi grasslands. 2. Physical appearance: The entire body is covered with pure white wool, with a robust and well-proportioned physique and moderate stature. The face is delicate, with a slightly concave nose bridge, large and bright eyes, and symmetrical, upright or semi-drooping ears. Both male and female goats have horns, which extend backward, upward, and outward, often forming an inverted "8" shape. The neck is of moderate thickness and length, with a well-combined neck and shoulder. The back is straight and deep, the rump slightly higher, and the development is good, with a body length slightly larger than the body height. The limbs are straight, the hooves are firm, and the tail is short and small, curving upward. See Appendix A. 3. Wool characteristics: The wool is shiny, with two layers: an outer layer of thick, medullated wool (commonly known as "slightly curly wool") and an inner layer of soft, fine, medullated cashmere wool, mixed with the coarse wool. There are no heterochromatic hairs. 4. Main production performance: - Reproductive performance: Both male and female goats reach sexual maturity at 8 months of age and are first mated at 18 months of age.
