Abstract
1.1.1 Equipment to which this document applies
The main purpose of this document is to serve as a safety standard for products mentioned in its scope, but it also applies to documents developed by technical committees in accordance with the principles set forth in IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51 for products similar to those mentioned in this document's scope.
This document specifies general safety requirements for electrical equipment and its accessories intended for the following types of use, regardless of their location.
a) Electrical testing and measurement equipment
1.1.2 Equipment not included in the scope of this section includes the following new items and paragraphs:
aa) IEC 61557 (all parts) Testing, measuring, or monitoring equipment for electrical safety protection measures in low-voltage distribution systems below AC 1000V and DC 1500V.
Handheld devices such as oscilloscopes, power meters, multimeters not rated for measuring live grid power supply voltages, clamp multimeters, and communication testing devices are not within the scope of this document.
