GB/T 6744-2008 Binders for paints and varnishes—Determination of saponification value—Titrimetric method
Abstract
This standard specifies the steps for determining the content of esterified acids in paint bases for color paints and varnishes (including the content of free acids and acid anhydrides in the paint base) by titration method. Due to the different saponification resistance of different paint bases, this standard has limitations in its applicability. If necessary, the experiment can be repeated under more stringent conditions to test the complete saponification value, such as extending the saponification time, increasing the concentration of potassium hydroxide solution, or using alcohols with higher boiling points as solvents. This standard is not applicable to paint bases that can further react with alkali beyond normal saponification. Appendix A specifies the method for determining the saponification value of hard-to-saponify paint bases.
