This document specifies the requirements for the use of thermal protectors or thermal detectors installed inside the stator windings of induction motors or placed in other suitable locations of induction motors to prevent serious damage to the motor caused by thermal overload. This document applies to single-speed three-phase cage induction motors operating at 50 Hz or 60 Hz and complying with the provisions of IEC 600341 and IEC 6003412: a) with a rated voltage not exceeding 1,000 V; b) used for full-voltage starting or star-delta starting. This document does not apply to: a) direct protection of the rotor windings; only indirect protection methods for the rotor windings are allowed. For large motors (especially two-pole motors) and motors with high starting inertia, special attention should be paid to the heating of the rotor during startup and after "tripping". b) protection of bearings and other structural components. c) protection methods for specific applications.
