This document specifies the basic principles of ergonomics in the design of work systems, defines relevant basic terms, and describes a comprehensive method for the design of work systems. This method requires the collaboration of ergonomics professionals with other participants in system design, focusing on the balance between human needs, social needs, and technical needs during the design process. The users of this document include managers, workers (or their representatives), and relevant professionals involved in the design or redesign of work systems, such as ergonomists, project managers, and designers. Understanding general knowledge in ergonomics, engineering, design, quality, and project management can help to better utilize this document. This document aims to provide assistance and guidance for the improvement, design (or redesign), or updating of work systems. The term "work system" in this document refers to the combination of people and equipment in specific spaces and environments, as well as the interactions between them, and broadly encompasses various work situations, including fixed and variable workplaces. The complexity and characteristics of different work systems vary, such as the use of temporary work systems. Work systems in different fields are shown as follows: -- Production, such as machine operators and machines, workers and assembly lines; -- Transportation, such as drivers and cars or trucks, airport personnel; -- Support, such as maintenance technicians and work equipment; -- Commerce, such as office workers and workstations, mobile workers and tablets, chefs in restaurant kitchens; -- Other fields, such as medical care, teaching, and training. The principles of ergonomics apply to all stages of the life cycle of work systems, from concept to development, implementation and deployment, use, maintenance and support, and finally to decommissioning. The systematic method described in this document provides guidance for current and futur
