This document specifies methods for identifying fire hazards caused by machinery and conducting risk assessments. It provides basic concepts and methods for fire prevention and protection measures required during the design and manufacturing of machinery. These measures take into account the intended use of the machine and reasonably foreseeable misuse. It also provides guidelines for reducing the fire risk of machinery to an acceptable level through machine design, risk assessments, and user manuals. This document does not apply to: -- mobile machinery; -- machinery containing controlled combustion processes (e.g., internal combustion engines, boilers), unless such combustion processes can create ignition sources in other parts of the machinery or outside the machine; -- machinery used in potentially explosive environments and for explosion prevention; -- fire detection and fire extinguishing systems integrated into building fire safety systems. This document also does not apply to machinery or machinery components manufactured before the document's publication.
