This standard describes the operating conditions and typical characteristics of active power feed converters (AICs) employing various technologies and topologies, which can be connected between the AC side of the power supply network (grid) and the DC side with constant current or voltage, and convert electrical power (active and reactive) in both forward and reverse (feedback) directions.
Typically, active power feed converters are used with the DC side of speed-regulated electric drive systems (PDS) of all voltage and power levels, uninterruptible power supply systems (UPS), active filters, photovoltaic systems, wind power generation systems, battery-supported power management systems, etc.
Active power feed converters are typically connected between the power supply network (AC side) and the DC side of current or voltage, with the aim of synthesizing sinusoidal AC current to avoid generating low-frequency harmonics (e.g., frequencies below 1 kHz). Some of them can also compensate for existing harmonic distortion of the given supply-side voltage. Moreover, they can adjust the power factor of the power supply network by transferring electrical power (active and reactive) in both forward and reverse (feedback) directions, which can save energy and stabilize the power supply voltage in the system, or couple renewable energy or energy storage devices with the power supply network.
This standard provides a practical method for analyzing the emission values of active power feed converters in the power supply network. This method is based on the latest results of line impedance values in the 2 kHz to 9 kHz frequency range and the tolerance of capacitors directly connected to the power supply network.
This leads to basic considerations for the design of emission values below 150 kHz.
