This document provides guidelines for conducting in-depth profiling and bulk analysis using glow discharge optical emission spectrometry (GDOES). This document is limited to the analysis of rigid solid samples and does not include the analysis of powders, gases, or solutions. In conjunction with existing and future standard methods, this document aims to enable the standardized management of instruments and the control of measurement conditions. Although various types of glow discharge emission light sources have emerged in recent years, the vast majority of glow discharge spectrometers currently in use still rely on Grimm-type hollow anodes. However, unlike the original Grimm-type light sources, which contact the front side of the sample, some light sources now place the cathode in contact with the back side of the sample, such as the Marcus-type light sources. The provisions contained in this document also apply to the aforementioned two types of light sources and other types of light sources. The Grimm-type light sources are merely used as an example.
