Abstract
This document specifies the technical requirements for shipborne automatic identification systems (AIS) used in the very high frequency (VHF) maritime mobile frequency band, including the operational characteristics, technical features, long-distance applications, special application messages, transmission packet sorting, Class B AIS adopting CSTDMA technology, AIS messages, and requirements for AIS pulse transmission stations.
This document is applicable to the design, production, use, and management of AIS-related equipment.
