This document specifies the basic methods and requirements for the design, construction, testing, and marking of non-electrical equipment used in explosive environments.
This document applies to non-electrical Ex equipment, Ex components, protective systems, devices, and assemblies of these products that are used in explosive environments and have potential ignition sources themselves.
Hand tools and manual equipment without energy storage are not within the scope of this document. The safety of static autonomous process equipment is not covered by this document when it is not part of the equipment covered by this document.
Note 1: Static autonomous process equipment includes devices such as tanks, containers, fixed pipelines, and manual valves, which do not have their own energy sources that may generate potential ignition sources during operation.
Except for requirements directly related to the ignition risk that may lead to explosions, this document does not specify other safety requirements.
It can be assumed that Ex equipment can operate under the following standard atmospheric conditions (related to the explosive characteristics of the environment):
—— Temperature: -20 ℃ to +60 ℃;
—— Pressure: 80 kPa to 110 kPa;
—— Normal oxygen content in the air, usually 21% (by volume).
Such environmental conditions may also occur inside the equipment. In addition, natural breathing caused by fluctuations in the internal working pressure and/or temperature of the equipment may allow the outside air to be drawn into the equipment.
Note 2: Although the standard atmospheric temperature range given above is -20 ℃ to +60 ℃, the normal temperature range used by Ex equipment is still -20 ℃ to +40 ℃, unless otherwise specified and marked. It is generally considered that -20 ℃ to +40 ℃ is suitable for most Ex equipment, and if all equipment is manufactured to be suitable for an environmental temperature limit of 60 ℃, it wi
