This standard specifies symbols used to provide important information for users and other personnel for the safe and effective use of medical devices. This standard will primarily be used by the following personnel:
—— Medical device manufacturers who market their products in countries with different language requirements for medical device labeling.
—— Users of medical devices who obtain information from different sources and have different language capabilities.
—— Personnel responsible for post-market supervision.
—— Health authorities, testing organizations, certification bodies, and other organizations responsible for the implementation of medical device regulations and post-market supervision.
This standard may also be helpful to the following personnel:
—— Manufacturers who must deal with the limited space for small labels.
—— Medical device distributors or representatives of other manufacturers.
—— Health authorities responsible for training and trainees.
Note: This standard involves a small number of symbols that are occasionally used on the devices themselves, packaging, or accompanying documents. Many other standards, such as GB 9706.1, specify many additional symbols applicable to specific types or combinations of devices, or for specific situations.
