This document specifies the requirements for automotive safety integrity level-oriented and safety-oriented analysis, including:

—— Guidelines for element coexistence;
—— Relevant failure analysis;
—— Safety analysis.
This document applies to safety-related systems that include one or more electrical/electronic systems installed in mass-produced road vehicles except for light motorcycles.
This document does not apply to specific electrical/electronic systems in special-purpose vehicles, such as vehicle systems designed for disabled drivers.
Note: Other dedicated safety standards can be used as supplements to this document, and vice versa.
Systems and their components that have already been released for production or are being developed before the date of publication of this document are not applicable to this document. When changes are made to systems and their components that have been released for production before the publication of this document, this document tailors the safety lifecycle activities based on these changes. When integrating systems that are not developed in accordance with this document with systems that are developed in accordance with this document, the safety lifecycle activities need to be tailored in accordance with this document.
This document addresses potential hazards caused by functional abnormalities of safety-related electrical/electronic systems, including potential hazards caused by the interaction of these systems. This document does not address hazards related to electric shock, fire, smoke, heat, radiation, toxicity, flammability, reactivity, corrosivity, energy release, etc., unless the hazards are directly caused by functional abnormalities of safety-related electrical/electronic systems.
