This document describes the evaluation method for the antibacterial activity on the surfaces of plastic and other non-porous materials, as well as products (including semi-finished products) that have undergone antibacterial treatment.
This document is not applicable to the evaluation of bacterial activity and reproduction on the surfaces of non-porous materials that have not undergone antibacterial treatment. For such evaluations, please refer to Method B in GB/T 19275—2003 [1].
This document does not address secondary effects resulting from antibacterial treatment, such as preventing biological corrosion and odor; nor is it applicable to the evaluation of the biodegradability of plastic materials. For plastic biodegradation tests, please refer to ISO 14851 [3], ISO 14852 [4], ISO 14855 [5], and other relevant standards.
This document does not cover building materials, unless they have undergone antibacterial treatment in the same manner.
This document does not cover antibacterial textiles, even if the surfaces of these products have been coated and laminated (ISO 20743 [7] applies).
This document does not cover photocatalytic materials and products (ISO 27447 [8] applies).
The test results should include a reference to this document and the test conditions. The results obtained using this document indicate that the antibacterial activity obtained under the test conditions specified in this document does not represent the antibacterial activity under other test conditions such as temperature, humidity, bacterial strains, and nutrients. For the antibacterial test described in this method, the minimum dose of antibacterial agent (chemical) should be dissolved into the inoculated bacterial solution.
It is recommended that testers conduct microbiological testing operations in accordance with ISO 7218.
