This document specifies the general definitions, usage conditions, structural requirements, technical characteristics, and verification requirements for low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies.
Note: In this document, the term "switchgear assembly" (see 3.1.1) refers to low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies.
For determining the conformity of switchgear assemblies, the requirements of IEC 61439-2 and subsequent related parts apply in conjunction with the requirements of this document. For switchgear assemblies not covered by IEC 61439-3 and subsequent parts, IEC 61439-2 applies.
This document defines specific requirements for switchgear assemblies in the following applications: docks, campgrounds, market squares, and electric vehicle charging stations, as follows:
• Switchgear assemblies with a rated voltage not exceeding 1,000 V AC or 1,500 V DC;
• Switchgear assemblies used in conjunction with equipment for power generation, transmission, distribution, and energy conversion, as well as equipment for controlling energy consumption;
• Switchgear assemblies operated by general personnel (e.g., plugging and unplugging electrical equipment);
• Switchgear assemblies intended for installation and use in market squares, docks, campgrounds, and other similar publicly accessible locations, including temporary facilities;
• Switchgear assemblies for Mode 3 and Mode 4 electric vehicle charging stations (AEVCS). These are designed in accordance with IEC 61851-1:2017 and integrate the functions and additional requirements of electric vehicle conductive charging systems.
