1.1 This standard specifies the safety requirements for the manufacture and installation of new electrically driven traction or forced-service freight elevators and hydraulic freight elevators for permanent installation. Freight elevators are fixed lifting equipment serving specified floors. They have a car whose size and structural design do not allow people to enter. The car is suspended or supported by ropes or chains, and is driven by electric or hydraulic power on rigid guide rails with an inclination of not more than 15° from the vertical.
This standard applies to freight elevators with a rated load not exceeding 300 kg and not intended for transporting people.
1.2 In addition to the provisions of this standard, consideration should be given to supplementary requirements in special circumstances (such as potential explosive gases, extreme climates, earthquakes, transport of dangerous goods, etc.).
1.3 This standard does not apply to:
a) Freight elevators with drive modes other than those specified in 1.1;
b) Freight elevators installed before the implementation of this standard and those that have undergone major modifications (see Appendix E);
c) Lifting equipment such as chain bucket elevators, mining elevators, stage elevators, equipment with automatic cages, construction elevators, ship elevators, offshore mining or drilling platforms, and equipment for construction and maintenance;
d) Freight elevators with an inclination of the guide rails to the vertical of more than 15°;
e) Safety during the transport, installation, maintenance, and dismantling of freight elevators;
f) Use of glass in the walls of the shaft, the car, and the floor doors (including windows).
However, the above-mentioned equipment can be implemented in accordance with this standard.
This standard does not address noise and vibration issues, as these issues are not related to the safe use of freight elevators.
