This standard provides the basic methods and technical requirements for inerting systems to prevent explosions in environments with combustible dust or combustible gases. This standard applies to inerting technologies that completely inert explosive environments with combustible dust, combustible gases, or their mixtures by introducing inerting gases. Partial inerting can be implemented with reference to this standard. This standard does not apply to the following situations: -- Inerting technologies that add inert dust to combustible dust to prevent dust explosions; -- Technologies that install flame-retardant metal nets in the gas spaces of containers or storage tanks to prevent explosions of combustible liquid vapors; -- Fire suppression; -- Technologies that control the concentration of combustible substances beyond the explosion limit to avoid forming explosive environments; -- Protective measures to prevent ignition, spontaneous combustion, exothermic reactions, or combustion spreading in dust layers or dust accumulations.
